The charismatic leadership of Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling was a mitigating factor, propelling this company to epic proportions prior to its demise. The PRC and trading area, made an environment that pushed social facilitation and social learning theory to the limits. The focus of the company was to implement conceptual ideas and to garner immediate profits. The employees became disciples of Lay and Skilling and saw only results and profits, they never questioned the moral implications of their actions. Once the charismatic leadership of Skilling had promoted conformity among the employees. The nonconformist employees were essentially voted out to keep the idealized vision and toxic work place intact. Skilling had many of the attributes of a fine leader, but was devoid of integrity. Week 1: Introduction to Problem solving and Managerial Decision Problem solving abilities and communicating effectively is what people in businesses relate to as critical thinking. Use of logic and brain to understand all the life situations will depend on how someone thinks critically. Managerial decision making on the other hand involves solving problems and making resolutions, which leads to good management skills (Goetsch and Davis, 2014, p. 106). Critical thinking and managerial decision making will therefore help one be a good manager by ensuring that all what happens within is because of thoughtful conclusion. Any good learner will apply the two to ensure success in everything in future that is after joining them with the educational knowledge. As a learner, I am also able to plan my time and manage it. In exam, I am needed to think critically so that I can score well. I am capable of solving all the problems, which I come across in life because in mind I know that any decision I make should aim at ensuring peace of my mind. Week 2: Reflection on Prospect Theory and Application of the Theory in Making Managerial Decisions People choose alternatives in life through probabilities, which may result to risking with unknown outcome. Daniel Kahneman describes this as Prospect theory. Use of this theory is evident in how people risk in their real life as they try to work and make a living through businesses. Daily routine of working hard to put something on the table makes them toss or risk their lives and property with an intention of gaining more not knowing that they may end up making losses (Wang, Zhang and Wang, 2015, p.68). All this is due to the decisions made based on assumptions of gaining which is the mentality of every businessperson. Failure to know the outcome makes the person put more effort to make profit or achieve the target in the business. With this in mind, any risk I take is geared towards attaining what is worthy. I have been able to understand that alternatives I take requires critical thinking and making wise decisions. Knowledge will also enable me accept losses because they can be b ecause of risking without knowing the outcome. This has helped me in knowing that in risking I should always be prepared for different results, which may be favorable or unfavorable. Bearing this in mind, I can always be prepared in future for anything worth taking risks. Week 3: Reflection on Science of Personality and Automatic Thinking Science of personality help people understand and manage time. It helps one become an important member in any business. People learn about themselves and about other people hence making it very easy for them to relate well. This knowledge leads to healthy living whereby one can understand the other ensuring peace between them. In business, all the participants will transact their businesses well because they are aware of each others personality. Automatic thinking entails thinking fast while critical thinking requires reasoning and that is why it can also be referred to as slow thinking. The knowledge of the two has helped me make rational decisions. Through fast thinking, I can make quick decisions and especially in moments, which require quick actions to be taken. I am capable of managing stress through the knowledge of automatic thinking. Knowledge of inductive reasoning has also helped me in predicting about my future and everything that I do in life. Conclusions I make are out o f it hence shaping up my behavior because I can well predict my future (Jackson and Schuler, 1995, p.237). Week 4: Reflection on Self-Awareness and the Core of Good Leadership Self-awareness being the ability to recognize oneself leads to an individual having a clear view of his or her personality. This awareness has helped me learn more about myself and other people hence being able to relate well with them. Sometimes I can work to improve my awareness through practicing. It makes it possible for to understand leaders and who they are because I have the ability to know their personality. I am able to manage a large group of people because I have learnt how to interact, lead and relate well with people. This improves my leadership skills, which helps me create a good rapport with people now and in future. It has also helped me practice decorum in my leadership. Talking to people politely makes them respect you despite your age or height because of the good approach to them. Having learnt this, I have been able to practice it because I am aware that is what people likes. Therefore, in leadership I can apply all what I have learnt by reflecting back to the c ontent taught and the knowledge I have gained after studying. Week 5: Reflection on Innovation and Creativity Innovation and creativity are important skills in critical thinking and decision making as they serve to improve what one is doing and give the results of someones thoughts. Thinking outside the box also is part of creativity because someone has to engage his or her mind in critical thinking. I have learnt that through innovation and creativity I can come up with something, which can help me in living a good life. Am able to help many people out of my innovation hence creating friendship among the people. Any situation, which seems to be difficult, I am able to think outside the box and be able to solve the problem because I have the ability to. Sharing with other people my innovations, which are out of my creativity because of critical thinking, has helped me lead people well without rough heads. This will also help me in future in leading people and in managing everything that I do. Response on Context Analysis and Making Quality Conclusion The decision-making and contexts are interlinked because decision making involves the process of having or gaining clarity together with the elements based on conclusion and the identification of quality conclusions (Helfat and Peteraf, 2015, p.831; Bratton and Gold, 2017). The reflection based on the decision making in the context as well as developing strong conclusion has helped me in my managerial skills and in making right decisions. The lesson for the week engaged me fully and I was able to realize that there is a close relationship between decision-making process and context. On the aspect of the context, I learnt about understanding the people in the workplace, identification of the needs at a particular time; when, following the right criteria, approximating when and the area where the risks may happen. Understanding the context will help me decide where I will make adjustments and it will positively influence my decision. The issue of understanding setting had not been so m uch familiar to me as I did not have a clear grasp of the organization, or the business decision making in context (Rothaermel, 2015, p.94). However, with the current knowledge of the same. I am therefore, challenged to practice context analysis before making any decision in any workplace. Week 7: Critical Thinking and Managerial Decision Making 7 weeks Course The significant or important concepts learnt in each week are crucial to all the people. Personally, they are very important to me because they have helped and guided me in everything I do and will do in future (Liu, Fan and Zhang, 2014, p.75). For instance, the prospect theory and science of personality have helped me know that risking can be done with an aim of gaining only to get a loss at the end. This has helped me to know that I must psychologically be prepared to any outcome because anything can happen on the process. Self-awareness has also in living well with people because I have known that people have different personalities. This knowledge is what has enabled good relationship between me and the other people. Conclusion Conclusively, critical thinking and managerial decision-making are very important skills, which every human being is entitled to have. The two help one in managing himself or herself and then in managing other people. I can bet that the knowledge I have gained in studying the two skills has helped me a lot from the way I view issues and conduct myself to the way I also view other people. Constitution Timeline! There are five particular documents that led to the development and the signing of the United States Constitution. They are the Magna Carta, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Federalists Papers. This paper will be discussing these documents and be stating if and how they impacted the United States constitution. Then it will be stating when the Unites States Constitution was finalized and passed and signed. Then there will be a summary of these in the conclusion of this paper. The Magna Carta is a document that was developed in the year 1215. This document gave people the right to have a habeas corpus. The Magna Carta was used in the development of the United States Bill of rights in 1689, which were later included in the United States Constitution in 1791. So the Magna Carta did have an impact on the United States Constitution. This impact was that it was used as an inspiration for the Bill of rights that were included in the United States Constitution. The Magna Carta is called the ââ¬Å"great charterâ⬠part of the bill of rights (Turner, R. 2003). The Mayflower Compact is a document that was written in 1620 onboard the Mayflower ship. One of the first ships that landed on the United States soil. The Mayflower Compact was signed be all of the adult males onboard the Mayflower in 1620 when they first landed on the American soil. This document was based on a social contract made by the first American settlers in the year 1620. The Mayflower Compact o nly remained in effect from 1620 until 1630. The Mayflower compact did not really impact the United States Constitution. This is because it only lasted for ten years (N. A. , 2010). The Declaration of Independence was the first document that stated that the United States was an individual country that had its independence from England. It was developed in 1775-1776 and was signed on July 4, 1776. This document was a way to explain to the world why the United States of America started the revolutionary war against England. The Declaration of Independence was the first document signed that stated that the Unites States was then freed from England and was an individual country (N. A. , 2010). The Declaration of Independence was a way that the people of the United States had natural rights (Patterson, T. E. , 2009). The Declaration of Independence was the main document that had the most impact on the United States Constitution. If the United States did not have a document that stated the United States as a free country then they would not be able to even have their own Constitution. So that is why the Declaration of independence had been such an important document for the United States to have (Patterson, T. E. , 2009). The Articles of Confederation was the basis of the first government of the United States of America. The Articles of Confederation was the written out in 1777 by the first Congress of the United States. The Articles of Confederation made it impossible for congress to tax the citizens of the United States. So there was no way to build a Navy or hire an Army to protect the citizens of the United States. The Articles of Confederation could be amended only by unanimous approval of the representatives of the states that are in the United States (Paterson, T. E. , 2009). The Articles of Confederation did in part lead to the United States Constitution. It was discovered in 1986 that they did need to change the Articles of Confederation and to develop a Constitution for the United States after there was a rebellion made by farmers against the foreclosures of the farmland. So with this said that is how the articles of confederation did impact the United States Constitution (Patterson, T. E. , 2009). The Federalist Papers were a series of political essays that were written in 1787 and 1788 under the pseudonym pubilus. Alexander Hamilton initiated the Federalist Papers in 1787 as a way to get the Federalist Constitution passed. Hamilton wrote 51 out of 85 Federalist papers. The other 34 essays were written by John Jay and James Madison. For sure 14 of them were written by Madison and 5 were written be Jay. The other 15 were not clear on who wrote them. All but 8 of the Federalist papers were first printed in New York newspapers. It is the belief of Cooke (1971) that the Federalist papers had very little impact in the United States Constitution. So then the work towards the actual United States Constitution was started in the spring of 1787 with debates made between the Virginia plan and the New Jersey plan. Some of the debates discussed were Slavery, Ratification, Farmers Goals, Protecting Liberty, the Bill of Rights, the Powers of the three forms of government, more power for the people and less for the government. The United States Constitution as finally passed and signed in the summer of 1787 in the east room of the old Pennsylvania state house (Patterson, T. E. , 2009). There were five documents that led to the development of the United States Constitution. These documents were the Magna Carta, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the articles of the Confederation and the Federalist papers. This paper has discussed all of these documents in detail. Then it discussed the parts of the Constitution and ended with where and when the United States Constitution was passed and was in effect. How would you revise these clumsily formatted partial quotations? For each example, compare your corrections to mine in the paragraphs following each one. 1. ââ¬Å"These days, says Smith, ââ¬ËThe market does the valuation work for you.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ To clarify the context, the writer has provided the quotation with an introductory phrase the person quoted did not actually utter; therefore, it is not inserted within the quotation marks. And because although ââ¬Å"The market does the valuation work for youâ⬠is a full sentence the potential quotation is ââ¬Å"These days, the market does the valuation work for you,â⬠the original quote is treated as a partial quotation and therefore does not begin with an initial-capped word: ââ¬Å"These days, says Smith, ââ¬Ëthe market does the valuation work for you.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ Also, the attribution tag (ââ¬Å"says Smithâ⬠) could be relocated to follow the quotation, but the sentenceââ¬â¢s rhythm is better as is. 2. ââ¬Å"But he conceded that, ââ¬Ëwith the world like it is, the situation looks a little different now.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ If you do choose to make a partial quote immediately follow a contextual paraphrase, note that unlike as in the case of a simple attribution tag, when the paraphrased part of the sentence and the quotation portion are linked by that, they are not separated by a comma: ââ¬Å"But he conceded that ââ¬Ëwith the world like it is, the situation looks a little different now.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ However, if you convert the initial phrase to an attribution tag, do insert a comma after it: ââ¬Å"But, he conceded, ââ¬Ëwith the world like it is, the situation looks a little different now.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ 3. ââ¬Å"If you own a business ââ¬Ëdependent on an abundant, reliable water source,ââ¬â¢ he said, you probably arenââ¬â¢t thinking about building a plant in Las Vegas.â⬠In journalistic writing, quoted material gives the article a sense of accessibility you feel like you are there listening to the source and of veracity. But some people are more quotable than others, and some reporters are better at recording their sourceââ¬â¢s utterances better than others. Often, in the rush to capture a speakerââ¬â¢s comments, the reporter manages just a phrase here and there and presents them as partial quotes. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesnââ¬â¢t. Here, as is frequently true, the exact words are inconsequential because the statement is mundane; thereââ¬â¢s no personality or pithiness in the prose. In that case, itââ¬â¢s usually better just to treat the information as a paraphrase a rewording of the quotation even if it includes words or phrases (or the entire sentence fragment) actually uttered by the source: ââ¬Å"If you own a business dependent on an abundant, reliable water source, he said, you probably arenââ¬â¢t thinking about building a plant in Las Vegas.â⬠4. ââ¬Å"Smith kept his cool, but he was clearly upset that the plan was meant to ââ¬Ëdiscredit the committeeââ¬â¢s work and undermine its conclusions before those conclusions are even reached.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ This partial quotation could be converted to a paraphrase, but because the issue is sensitive and the speaker is critical in his choice of words, most reporters would retain the markers indicating that these are the sourceââ¬â¢s exact words. However, although it is strongly implicit in this sentence that Roberts is the source of the partial quotation, thatââ¬â¢s not good enough. Determinants of Capital Structure of Listed Saudi Arabian Companies - Dissertation Example This study seeks to discover whether or not there is such a significant effect. In the study, the independent variables identified were seven financial and economic firm indicators, while the dependent variable proxy for capital structure is the leverage or level of debt capital relative to the total capitalization of the firm. Multivariate regression modelling was employed in the assessment of which variables proved significant in determining capital structure, and in what direction it tended to influence the firmââ¬â¢s debt. The dissertation concludes that firm size is the most significant determinant across three of the five industrial sectors, followed by profitability which is a significant determinant for two sectors. Of the remaining, four factors were significant for one sector each. Manufacturing and industrial firms are significantly related to four determinants, the most of any other sector. Retail and services has two significant determinants, while the other three sec tors have one each. Firm size relates to higher debt, while profitability relates to lower debt.
